Our LawyersJerry BainJerry E. Bain, shareholder, is certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and focuses exclusively on marital law. He is a Certified Fellow of the American Academy Matrimonial Lawyers, and a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. Mr. Bain is admitted to practice in all Texas state courts and before the U.S. Supreme Court as well as the Eastern District of Texas Federal Courts. He received a Bachelors of Business Administration from The University of Texas and his law degree from The University of Texas School of Law. Mr. Bain is active in the community and serves on the State Bar of Texas Family Law Exam Commission in multiple capacities over the years such as writing the exam, grading the exam and approving who is eligible to sit for the exam. Jerry has been a Director of the State Bar of Texas and President of the Texas Young Lawyer's (formerly known as the Texas Junior Bar). Mr. Bain has been married to the same wonderful lady for more than 30 years, and they have three children. He is a member of Christ Episcopal Church and has been a Vestry Member for two terms. Michael JarrettMichael E. Jarrett, shareholder, received his board certification in Family Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1994. He is a member of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists. Michael received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Austin College in 1984. He received his law degree from the Texas Tech University School of Law in 1987. While in law school, Michael served on the Law Review and the Board of Barristers. Michael's family law practice encompasses complex property and custody issues. Michael has spoken at seminars to attorneys and other legal professionals on a number of topics including parental relocation, domestic violence and protective orders. In 2002, Michael was appointed by the then President-Elect of the State Bar of Texas to serve on the Administration of Rules of Evidence Committee. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Leadership Challenge, an organization benefitting Tyler school children in a number of ways. Married since 1991, Michael and his wife have two children. Bruce BainBruce D. Bain , shareholder, is a board certified specialist in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and on the Board of Directors of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists. Bruce received his Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in Houston and his B.B.A. from the University of Mississippi-Oxford. His practice concentrates primarily on complex family law issues ranging from complicated custody and conservatorship issues to complex property concerns relating to property characterization and reimbursement. Bruce also handles multi state jurisdictional issues for out of state litigants and foreign nationals as well as grandparent access and custody. Mr. Bain has spoken on multiple occasions providing continuing legal education to fellow attorneys, including the State Bar of Texas' Advanced Family Law Seminar - the largest continuing legal education seminar in the nation. The issues on which he has spoken have ranged from discovery rules and procedures to new legislation regarding economic contributions on property to modifications and enforcement of custody issues. Mr. Bain is currently serving his second term as a member of the Texas Pattern Jury Charge Committee for family law issues, is a member of the Texas Supreme Court's Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee and the current chairman of the State Bar of Texas's Grievance Committee - District 2A. He is the immediate Past-President of the Smith County Bar Association and past President of the Smith County Bar Association Family Law Section. He previously served as secretary and a director of the Smith County Bar Association. Bruce donates some of his time through East Texas Legal Services providing pro bono services for indigent clients. Bruce is also a past president of the Alzheimer's Alliance of Northeast Texas, Inc. Bruce is married to a fantastic lady and they have three boys with whom he is actively involved as a little league coach, Boy Scout volunteer, and homework helper.
